Football has become a global business worth billions, and the sport’s biggest stars are being rewarded with contracts that would have been unimaginable a decade ago.
While European giants such as Real Madrid, Manchester City, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain continue to offer elite salaries, the rise of the Saudi Pro League has dramatically reshaped the financial landscape of world football. Several of the highest-paid players on the planet now earn salaries that dwarf those available in Europe’s top leagues.
This ranking focuses on estimated annual club salary only. Commercial endorsements, sponsorship deals, image rights agreements and other off-field income streams are not included unless specifically stated. The goal is to provide a clear comparison of what clubs are paying the world’s top footballers.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (Al Nassr) — €208.4 Million
No footballer comes close to Cristiano Ronaldo‘s earnings. More than three years after arriving in Saudi Arabia, the Portuguese superstar remains the highest-paid player in world football by an enormous margin.
His contract with Al Nassr is unlike anything seen in the modern game and reflects not only his sporting value but also his role in transforming the global profile of the Saudi Pro League. Ronaldo’s salary alone exceeds the entire wage bill of many top-flight European clubs.
2. Karim Benzema (Al Hilal) — €122.5 Million
Karim Benzema occupies a category of his own behind Ronaldo. The former Ballon d’Or winner continues to command one of the largest contracts in football, underlining Saudi Arabia’s commitment to attracting elite global stars.
Even after leaving European football, Benzema remains among the sport’s most marketable and respected figures, which is reflected in his extraordinary earnings package.
3. Riyad Mahrez (Al Ahli) — €52.2 Million
Mahrez remains one of the best-paid players in the Saudi Pro League and one of the few footballers worldwide to exceed the €50 million annual salary mark.
The former Manchester City winger continues to be a central figure for Al Ahli both on and off the pitch.
4. Sadio Mané (Al Nassr) — €40 Million
The Senegalese forward remains among the elite earners in football. His move from Europe to Saudi Arabia significantly increased his income and secured his place among the highest-paid players in the world.
5. Kalidou Koulibaly (Al Hilal) — €34.7 Million
Defenders rarely appear near the top of football salary rankings, making Koulibaly‘s position particularly notable. His contract demonstrates the premium Saudi clubs are willing to pay for leadership, experience and world-class defensive quality.
Saudi Arabia’s Growing Financial Dominance
The biggest story behind this ranking is the continued financial influence of Saudi football. Five of the top ten highest-paid players in the world now play in the Saudi Pro League, while the league also dominates the very top end of the salary spectrum.
Cristiano Ronaldo alone earns more than six times the salary of many Champions League stars and nearly seven times the salary of some of Europe’s highest-paid players.
Europe’s Highest-Paid Players
Despite Saudi Arabia’s rise, Europe still boasts some of the game’s biggest contracts.
Erling Haaland remains the Premier League‘s highest-paid footballer, while Kylian Mbappé leads Real Madrid‘s salary structure. Harry Kane, Vinícius Júnior, Mohamed Salah and Jude Bellingham also feature prominently among Europe’s top earners.
The gap between Saudi Arabia and Europe, however, has never been wider.
Methodology
This ranking is based on estimated annual club salary for the 2025/26 season. Figures are intended to reflect fixed football earnings paid directly by clubs and do not include endorsement deals, sponsorship agreements, personal business ventures, image rights income or investment returns.
